Frankfurt is considered as the most international city of Germany. It is
as cosmopolitan as Madrid and some people call it "Manhattan". It has
more than 650.000 inhabitants who live in a zone of 250
kilometers squared. It is located in a valley underneath the Taunus
Hills of the north, equidistant of Hamburg and the Alps, in the center
of "greater Rhine-Main" region.
Frankfurt has been a commerce center in Europe from century XII. In
its first years the markets attracted people of the Baltic countries
and the Mediterranean. Now it has businesses with all countries of
the World and at the end of World War II it was the seat of the
American Armed Forces during the country rehabilitation.
Frankfurt is the sixth more important city of Germany but it is the
first one about economic and transport. Frankfurt is well-known also as
"Mainhattan" by the numerous present skyscrapers throughout the border
of the Main river, among them, the skyscrapers that lodge insuring
banks. The highest building of the German capital is the Tower of the
Commercial bank, that, with antennas including, measures almost 300
meters and has the record of the higher offices building of Europe.
From the terrace of floor 56 of the Tower of the Main, constructed in
2000, views of the city that leave overwhelmed
anyone can be enjoyed.
Due to its situation next to the river, during the Medieval Age,
Frankfurt was an imperial city and center of the European
commerce. With time it was the city where one crowned the kings. This
way, Frankfurt continued growing until becoming the city of the
finances and the most important commerce of Europe. Frankfurt is the
center of the celebrations, and thanks to them, almost three million people
visit the city every year to see the Book Trade Show, the Music Celebration
or the Automobile Trade Show.

Our school is located in a quiet but central part of Frankfurt. Means of public transport will take you to the city centre in a few minutes. A large shopping mile called "Zeil" offers many opportunities for shopping, socialising, and browsing. It is located a few steps from the historical centre, famous for the City Hall, Paulskirche, and Cathedral. Just across the river Main, museums invite you to up-to-date exhibitions.
